Trust and safety: is Motorly legit?

Motorly is an Australian platform where licensed motor vehicle dealers make competing offers on your car. It is free for sellers, it never holds your money, and it does not release your contact details to a buyer until you accept an offer.

This page is maintained by Motorly to answer the questions sellers reasonably ask before handing over details about their car. It describes how the platform actually operates — it is not an independent audit or certification.

Six things worth knowing

Only licensed dealers can bid

Every buyer on the platform is a licensed motor vehicle dealer, verified by Motorly before they are allowed to make an offer. Private buyers cannot bid.

Your contact details stay private

Dealers see your vehicle, not your identity. Your name, phone number and address are not released to a buyer until you accept their offer.

Motorly never holds your money

Payment is made directly between you and the dealer who buys your car. There is no escrow account, no platform-held funds, and nothing for Motorly to withhold.

No fees and no obligation

Valuations and offers are free to sellers. There is no listing fee, no commission and no cost to walk away. You are never required to accept an offer.

We publish our own numbers

Motorly publishes aggregated data from its own platform, including how far apart dealer offers land on the same car — including where that reflects poorly on the industry.

A capped, transparent process

A vehicle receives up to three competitive dealer offers. The cap exists so buyers bid seriously rather than anchoring low, and so sellers are not left fielding endless calls.

How Motorly makes money

Dealers pay Motorly for access to vehicles listed on the platform. Sellers pay nothing — no listing fee, no commission, and no deduction from the amount a dealer offers you.

We state this plainly because it explains our incentives. Motorly benefits when sellers receive offers they are happy to accept, which is why buyers are capped at three competing offers per vehicle rather than an unlimited stream of calls.

What actually happens to your car

  1. You submit your vehicle details and photos through the online form. No account or payment is required.
  2. Motorly produces a market-based price range using live Australian dealer listing data for comparable vehicles.
  3. Your vehicle is presented to licensed dealer buyers. Your personal details are not included.
  4. Dealers submit their own independent offers — up to three per vehicle.
  5. You compare the offers side by side and accept one, or none. Accepting is what releases your contact details to that dealer.
  6. The dealer arranges inspection, payment and transfer paperwork directly with you.

What Motorly is not

  • Motorly is not a car buyer. It does not purchase your vehicle or take ownership of it.
  • Motorly is not a classifieds site. Your car is not publicly listed and private buyers cannot contact you.
  • Motorly is not a cash-for-cars service. Offers come from multiple independent licensed dealers, not one company.
  • Motorly does not guarantee a sale price. Offers are made by dealers based on their own assessment of your vehicle.

Your data

What information does Motorly collect?

The vehicle details, photos and contact information you enter into the valuation and application forms, plus standard analytics about how the website is used.

Who is my information shared with?

Vehicle information is shared with licensed dealer buyers so they can make an offer. Your personal contact details are shared with a single dealer only after you accept their offer.

Is my information sold to third parties?

Motorly does not sell seller contact details as a standalone product. Dealers pay for access to vehicles listed on the platform, and only receive seller contact details once an offer is accepted.

Can I stop receiving emails?

Yes. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect transactional messages about a vehicle you have already submitted.

Can I have my data deleted?

Yes. Email a deletion request to the contact address below and Motorly will remove your personal information, subject to any records it is legally required to retain.

Full detail is in the privacy policy and terms of service. To raise a privacy, security or data-deletion request, contact anthony.s@motorly.com.au.

Judge us on our own data

Rather than asking you to take our word for it, we publish aggregated statistics from our own platform — including how far apart dealer offers land on the same vehicle. See the Australian dealer offer spread report and real sold car prices.
